Free from Me

Years ago I remember struggling with this one particular sin that I just COULD NOT seem to overcome. I was praying and asking forgiveness for the umpteenth time and being disgusted with myself, I said “LORD, I am such a DIRT BAG!” unexpectedly, the Lord spoke back to me and said: “You sure are. As a man thinks in his heart, so he is.”

I was shocked! All I could think about was that the Lord called me a “dirt bag” and then gave me scripture to back it up by quoting Proverbs 23:7 . I was like … Lord!? … for real!?

It was at that moment that it seemed like He downloaded this huge revelation into my “hard drive” about how we see ourselves. Then I literally heard the Lord chuckle in His heart, as He gave me this brief, and comical biology lesson.

As you may know, you are a spirit being, with a mind and soul, and you exist on this earth in a body, your “earth suit” so to speak. Your earth suit is made up of basic elements that are found in dirt. (Remember, God created Adam from the dust of the ground so this should make sense.) Your skin, the largest organ of your body, is the “bag” that all of this “dirt” is contained in. There is just no way out of it! WE ARE ALL DIRT BAGS! Somehow that made me feel better and I began to realize what the Lord was trying to show me.

What we are mindful of has tremendous impact on our spiritual growth and our ability to walk in the Spirit. Today I saw how it impacts our ability to minister to the needs of others. Romans 8 helps us to understand this.

Romans 8:1-9 ~ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

(You see, it is not enough to just “be saved” (in Christ Jesus) but you must be “after the Spirit.” Notice the capital S in Spirit? We must be ever conscious of the Holy Spirit and His agenda.)

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.  3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:  4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

There are two laws mentioned here; the law of the Spirit of life in Christ and the law of sin and death. We are FREE from the second law because God CONDEMNED SIN IN THE FLESH.

When the devil is successful in getting you into self-condemnation and thinking of yourself as a “Dirt Bag,” you are in essence saying: “What God did was not enough, I have to condemn sin myself.” This can be as simple as you just focusing on the carnal, fallen nature most of the time instead of being mindful of spiritual things. This renders you helpless and powerless. (Which is the devils goal if he can’t kill you.)

5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

We understand that actively pursuing sin brings death, but did you know that condemnation does the same thing? Condemnation IS “minding the things of the flesh.” We can’t be effective at helping others with death working in us.

7Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Having the “Dirt Bag” (carnal) mindset is enmity against God. You cannot please Him. It reminds me of another scripture.

Hebrews 11:6 ~ But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

It takes faith to break free of the “Dirt Bag” mentality.

9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.

Do we really get it? That we are NOT in the flesh? Just because we live in a flesh and bone “earth suit” and walk around in a fallen world does not mean we are a dirtbag. Obviously I did not get that when the Lord spoke this to me.

Condemnation quenches the Spirit and puts the focus inward instead of upward. It renders the Christian powerless, ineffective. and no threat to the devil. Furthermore, it is not faith, and not pleasing to God.

We MUST walk in the power of our new identity in Christ. Not for you to execute your own agenda or for you to market it so you can be financially secure. Not to play with or to draw attention to yourself, but to reflect His image upon the earth. This was mans original design and the enemy has been attacking it since the garden of Eden.

The three biggest tricks devil uses to keep you from walking in your new identity is guilt, condemnation, and shame. eryh

Guilt – Is a confession that I am not forgiven.

Condemnation – Is a statement that I my life is worthy of judgment.

Shame – is a profession that it is still who I am.

He tries to get you so focused on the sin that all you can see is your weakness and failure. Instead of being mindful of spiritual things that can help others, you become only mindful of you, and you can’t even help yourself.

Focus on God’s love for you. the price that He paid, and the fact that Christ became your sin so you could become His righteousness and stand before God the Father without any sense of guilt, condemnation, or shame.

And remember, don’t be a dirt bag…

1Corinthians 2:15  But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is  judged of no man.

~ Knowing The Source Of Your Problems ~

Ephesians 6:12 ~ For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,  against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

This clearly defines the target; our enemy is spiritual. Be very clear that the cause of most of your problems, and ALL of your attacks have a spiritual source.

So much of a believer’s time is wasted, energy expended, and injury incurred because we exhaust ourselves battling people (flesh and blood) instead of the spiritual forces at work in a situation. In the process of attempting to wrestle believers into defeat in their personal lives, the devil attempts to divert the force of our “spiritual” warfare toward others—in our families, our churches, our work place and community.

The devil knows full well these two things:

(1) if we start fighting other people, they will certainly oblige us and fight back.

(2) that if we start fighting each other, we will never get around to defeating him.

So, whatever (or whoever) you face today, make up your mind about the conflict. Our enemy is the devil. As we make war in prayer and make peace with those around us, the devil stands no chance of succeeding in our lives.

~The Battle Within~

One evening an old Apache War Chief told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said,”My son, the battle between two wolves is inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, greed, arrogance, selfishness, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

The grandson thought about this for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old War Chief simply replied, “The one you feed.”

This is an old story. Maybe you have heard it before, but the truth is real. Consider what things you are feeding and what things you are starving in your life. Keep in mind that the words you speak have spiritual power that feeds and gives life to certain areas of your life. Jesus said that God’s Word is Spirit and Life.

John 6:63 ~ It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

The Word of God is full of commands to speak the Word of God, to keep it before you and in your mouth. Bible confessions are a valuable tool in winning the battle within. Build your faith and strengthen your heart by feeding that “Good Wolf” the Word of God on a daily basis by reading and speaking God’s Word.

Deuteronomy 30:18-20 ~ 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it. 15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16 in that I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.

Proverbs 18:21 ~ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Joshua 1:8 ~ This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

~The Good Fight~

Ephesians 6:12 ~ 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Some people walk through life never realizing that there is a war going on in the spirit realm. I can understand this about unbelievers but Christians should be aware, not just of the battle, but that they are participating in it whether they know it or not.

You see, the battle is for your soul first, and if that battle is lost to the enemy, he fights to keep you defeated and ineffective in this life. You are the object of the fight; you are the purpose for the battle. The devil hates you. If he had his perfect will he would kill you, but he will settle for giving you a “beatdown” in this life. Here are a few things that will help you.

1) Be aware that you have an adversary.

If you read the book of Job you will see that Job was completely unaware that he had an adversary. Knowing that you have an enemy will make you aware and alert for attacks.

2) Be aware that the victory is already won in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 1:20-23 ~ 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also
in that which is to come.
22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His
body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

God has put all things under Christ’s feet. Christ’s feet are in His BODY. Therefore all things are under OUR feet because we are the body of Christ.

3) Take your place and make your stand.

Our Lord has won the battle in the spirit, but we must enforce it in the natural. Things are always won in the spirit before they are won and manifest in the natural. The way we obtain our victory is to take our stand in Christ. Ephesians tell us how to take our place and maintain it until we see the victory.

Ephesians 6:10-18 ~ 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

I was a Christian for years, knowing what this verse said and even being able to quote it but was not DOING the verse. Most Christians are aware of this passage and still don’t walk in it because they don’t really believe that it will make much difference in their life. If they only knew the damage that it does to Satan’s plans they would be relentless in this. Remember that it is only the doers of the Word that are blessed.

4) Stay in faith. Keep the pressure on.

1 John 5:4 ~ For whatever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

We know that Christ paid the price for our sin, our sickness and our poverty. We have been redeemed from destruction and the curse, yet we see Christians all the time struggling with sickness, disease, poverty and destruction.

Don’t settle for anything short of your complete redemption. Take your stand and take what is rightfully yours. It is your inheritance.

~Peace Confessions~

This is the Word of God concerning Peace.  If you need peace in your life or want to establish a stronghold of Peace that can’t be shaken, read these scriptures and say the confession out loud daily.

Colossians 3:15

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

I let the peace of God rule in my heart because that is what I am called to do, and Lord I thank you for peace.

Jeremiah 29:11

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

I know the thoughts you think toward me Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give me an expected end.

John 14:27

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

I thank you Lord for leaving me your peace. I do not let my heart be troubled, and I am not afraid.

Isaiah 26:3

3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

I keep my mind stayed on you, and I trust in you Lord. I thank you for keeping me in perfect peace.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I am careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, I let my requests be known to God, and I thank you Lord for the peace of God that passes all understanding to keep my heart and my mind through Christ Jesus.

Psalm 34:14

14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

I depart from evil and do good, I seek peace and pursue it.

~ Spiritual Warfare ~ So what does that look like?

SPIRITUAL WARFARE, like anything else in the Kingdom of God, starts out as a seed. We are so “externally minded” being aware of cause and effect that we don’t realize how powerful a small seed can be.

To engage in true SPIRITUAL WARFARE you must resist the temptation to believe that the small seed that you have to contribute is insignificant. You MUST believe in the POWER OF THE SEED TO PRODUCE FRUIT! Your seed is significant!  I am not talking about finances here either, although it would apply, I am talking about living with an awareness of “the other person in the room” The Holy Spirit. I am talking about being obedient to follow those little promptings in your heart and pursuing them even when they don’t make perfect sense. Those are seeds.

We think of SPIRITUAL WARFARE as praying for long periods of time, making requests of God, interceding on behalf of others, and we limit it to JUST THAT. Those things are valid and important but it is not the be all and end all of SPIRITUAL WARFARE. Walk in living contact with the Master and you will be engaging in SPIRITUAL WARFARE all the time. I will give you an example:

I was coming home one day and was really hungry so I decided to stop at the burger joint that was close to the house. As I pull in the parking lot I feel a check in my heart so I waited a sec before I got out of the car and felt impressed that I should go to this certain burger joint that was all the way across town. I was like 2 blocks from my house and this other place was about 6 miles away. It did not make sense to me, I was tired, however I drove across town. When I get to the drive through window I hear a woman speaking very angry  and aggressive to someone else. She obviously did not know her intercom was on. I said “hello” and she was quiet for a sec and asked me in a very rude tone “can I help you”? I placed my order and drove up to the window still not knowing what to do. She took my money, was visibly angry and had a terrible attitude. As I waited for my food the Lord told me to say something to her.

When she handed me the bag I looked at her and said: “The Lord sent me here to tell you something” Her face immediately changed, her lips started to tremble. I took the bag and smiled at her and said: “The Lord sent me here to tell you that He loves you very much and He is waiting for you.” She put her hands over her face and began to cry, after a few seconds she looked up at me and said “thank you”.  That was it, that was the whole story. It seemed crazy, it seemed insignificant but I am telling you that woman knew she had an encounter with God that day, so did I. That is SPIRITUAL WARFARE:

Bind your faith to the seemingly insignificant seed and it becomes MIGHTY to the pulling down of strongholds. Seeds sown in faith ALWAYS produce results.

Be Blessed!
